You have been contracted to design a 15,000 sf renovation of a historical property on a 2 acre site in Santa Barbara

What agencies will have jurisdiction on this project? What consultants will be required on this project?

This project would fall under the jurisdiction of the Office of Historical Preservation and the State Historical Preservation Commission. It would also be subject to the CEQA process if a designated historical environment. As the site is larger than 1 acre, it would also be subject to review by the Regional Water Quality Control Board for its Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program to control runoff during and after construction. If the property is located within the Coastal Zone the project would also be subject to the California Coastal Act and under the jurisdiction of the California Coastal Commission. This project would be subject to the California Historical Building Code. A project such as this would require a historical preservationist, potentially an interior designer with experience in historical preservation, a mechanical electrical and plumbing engineer, potentially a structural engineer depending on scope, and an acoustical engineer, and traffic engineer.
